MirrorTVs :: Mirror TV Information

One of the biggest challenges to overcome when designing a Mirror TV is to have a great mirror when off and a to have a great tv picture when it is on. First of all, the old two way glass or even mirror pane that is found in many glass shops is a poor attempt at a Mirror TV because both of these products allow only 50% or less of the TV's light to pass through. Both of these products would be a nice mirror but function poorly as TVs.

Two products have become very popular lately:
1. A premium glass coated with precious metals in just the correct proportion to allow the light of a TV through. This product is excellent in dark area locations such as a basement. The product is mostly used in a bathroom because it is a bright usable mirror when the TV is off but is a very good TV when on. The down side is that it will be seen as a mirror when the tv is on and there is a dark scene. Also, if it is bright in the room, the TV will not seem as bright.

2. Dialectric Mirror. A dielectric mirror looks like ordinary clear window glass which allows almost all light through, but when there is dark behind it, a mirror affect occurs and it appears to be a plain mirror. This makes it a great TV but not a great mirror. In dark rooms, the mirror would appear dark or “smoky”.

Another down side is that you still can see through the product slightly even when the TV is off- which means you will see the frame of the TV. Some manufacturers install a matting material over the mirror at the TV frame area to hide it. This is fine except that you would not find matting on a traditional mirror. Really matting was only used in prints and paintings. It would not get the support of most interior designers.

There is good news, however! Our unique hybrid mirror optical system combines two types of technologies to give you the best of both worlds. What we have done at MirrorTVs, is taken a dielectric glass and applied an anti-reflective coating on the backside. This product provides a brighter reflective mirror when off and allows almost all of the light of the TV through when on.
